Eng. James Karori Nyabuto is a Professional Civil & Structural Engineer and Environmental, Health & Safety Consultant with over 12 years of multisectoral experience spanning engineering, infrastructure development, project management, sustainability, quality management, strategic advisory and organisational leadership across East Africa.
He is a registered Professional Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya, Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya, NEMA Environmental Lead Expert, DOSHS approved Safety and Health Adviser, Certified Member of IOSH (UK) and an EDGE Expert. He holds a BSc in Civil Engineering and an MSc in Occupational Safety and Health from JKUAT, complemented by training in Strategic Management and Leadership at the Kenya Institute of Management and Food Systems at Wageningen University & Research, Netherlands.
His professional experience cuts across transport and aviation, water and sanitation, agriculture, energy, manufacturing and industrial development, ICT infrastructure and the built environment. His portfolio includes contributions to major infrastructure projects of national and regional significance, including the Nairobi–Mombasa Standard Gauge Railway, Kigoro Water Treatment Plant, Mwea Irrigation Development and Mombasa Moi International Airport Rehabilitation.
As Principal Consultant at Rox Engineering Ltd, Eng. Karori provides multidisciplinary technical and strategic advisory services, combining engineering, environmental and safety expertise, project delivery, business leadership, stakeholder engagement and sound professional judgement to translate complex challenges into practical and sustainable solutions.
Beyond professional practice, he contributes to corporate governance, thought leadership, mentorship and initiatives that strengthen institutions, influence professional practice and advance inclusive and sustainable development. He is a recipient of the IEK Presidential Award for leading the cross institutional team that delivered the Site Inspection Handbook, an initiative involving IEK, NCA and the Council of Governors to strengthen construction oversight, quality and safety across Kenya.
