About The Institution

 

The Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) is the learned society of the engineering profession and co-operates with national and other international institutions in developing and applying engineering to the benefit of humanity.

 

The missions and objectives of IEK are: -

· To provide information and leadership to the engineering profession on issues of concern to the public or the profession
· To serve society and to be recognized, by national and international organizations and the public, as a respected and valuable source of information and guidance on the policies, interests and concerns that relate engineering and technology to the human and natural environment.
· To foster peace and socio-economic security among all countries of the world, through the proper application of technology.
· To facilitate relationships between government organizations, business forces and the people, collaborating with discussions aimed to improve the benefits of policies and investments related to the engineering competence.

The various activities of the Institution are carried out largely through Committees and Branches established by the Council. The Council thus relies on the members of these committees to plan, organize and implement the running of the Institution and make it a viable, energetic and a responsible professional body.

 

IEK COMMITTEES

 

The following are the IEK committees now established: -

 

Finance and Administration Committee

This committee comprises the Chairman, Hon. Secretary and Hon. Treasurer and handles the finance and general administration of the Institution and its secretariat.

 

Advocacy Committee

The committee is chaired by Eng. F W Ngokonyo. Other members are Eng. M Shiribwa, Eng. H Nyaanga and Eng. Jan Mutai.

 

Membership Committee

Under Eng. D M Wanjau, this committee deals with all matters pertaining to admission of new members, transfers and professional interviews. The members are:- Eng W J Odhiambo, Eng M Shiribwa, Eng. Gichuki Ndirangu, Eng J J Mburu, Eng J Nkanya Eng J Okubo,and Eng. Rosemary Kung’u

 

Conference Committee

Under Chairman Eng. Jan Mutai, other members are:- Eng. (Mrs) V W Maundu, Eng. Dr S O Abuodha, , Mr. Moses Majiwa, Eng. C Ogut, Eng. A W Ogwayo, Mrs. Jennifer N Gache and Phillip Oure. The committee is charged with organizing seminars, workshops and conferences.

 

Functions Committee

Chaired by Eng R K Chepkwony, the functions committee arranges up to 10 functions each year including the Annual Dinner Dance. Other committee members are -   Eng Collins Juma, Eng. G Manguriu, and Dominique Ojiendo. 

 

Journal Committee

The journal is the only contact most members have with the Institution. Under Chairman Eng. A A McCokindale, Kenya Engineer has been published in its present format and has appeared regularly since 1980. Members are:- Eng. W J Odhiambo- Vice Chairman, Eng. J N Kariuki, Dr. M Kashorda, Eng. S N Kigera, Eng D M Mureithi, Mr. V K Olunga, Mr. A W Otsieno Eng. T A Senaji, Eng J N Maina and Eng. S M Wambua

 

Training Committee

This Committee is charged with formulating training standards and organizing professional training. The Chairman, Eng. J M Riungu. Other members are:- Eng. B K Maingi, Eng. G Njorohiu, Eng. S Ouna, and Eng. Oloo Okaka

 

Welfare and Development Committee

Formed in March 1993 this committee is chaired by Eng. R K Kosgey. Other members are, Eng. J M Riungu, Eng J K Mwirichia. Eng D W Njora and Eng. D M Wanjau. The committee is responsible to making proposals and steer development of the IEK properties.

 

Industrialisation and Environment Committee

Industrialisation and Enviroment Committee is chaired by Eng. C M Ndonga. Other members are Eng. Jura Omedi and Eng R Chepkwony.
